Privacy policy.
Anime4Nerd does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Everything runs inside your browser.
What the extension does
Anime4Nerd upscales video on web pages using your computer's GPU. To do that it reads the frames of videos you switch on and draws the result over the video.
Site access
At install your browser asks you to allow the extension on all websites. Video players are often embedded from other domains, so the extension cannot know in advance where a video comes from. On each page it only looks for video elements. It does nothing to a video until you switch that video on in the popup. You can restrict it to specific sites at any time in your browser's extension settings.
Data handled locally
- Video frames are read into GPU memory to be upscaled and discarded after each frame is drawn. They are never saved or sent anywhere.
- Page metadata (page title, headings, Open Graph tags, schema.org data, Media Session metadata) is read only when you open the popup, to label the video. It is not stored.
- Settings (preset, line effects, and which sites you switched on) are stored with your browser's extension storage and may sync between your own browsers if browser sync is on.
- Performance numbers are measured locally, shown in the popup, and not recorded.
Data leaving your device
None. The extension makes no network requests of its own. It has no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, remote configuration, or accounts.
Permissions
storage: saves your preset and the per-site switch.scripting: adds the upscaler to tabs that were already open when you installed it.webNavigation: lists the frames of the current tab, because players are often in iframes.- Access to all sites: finds videos and reads their frames on whatever site the player is hosted on.
Third parties
The Anime4K shaders are open-source code by bloc97 and run locally. No third-party service is contacted.
